Two new talents have joined the VALOR team as intern – welcome Joel and Lauri.
Joel has gained experience in the company’s internal CRM development as well as working at a university as a research assistant in practical systems thinking. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from Tampere University, and after his internship he will continue his studies in the Master’s programme in Industrial Engineering and Management. Lauri has built a strong understanding of how startups operate through work at two different companies. At the beginning of his studies, he worked at Compensate, a company developing a carbon offsetting platform, and for the past three years he has worked at The Upright Project, which develops net impact data and measurement solutions. He is close to graduating with a Master’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from Aalto University, majoring in Economics. His minors are Industrial Engineering and Management, and Finance.
Let’s get to know our new colleagues:
Have your first few weeks at VALOR lived up to the expectations you had for the internship?
Joel: My first weeks have exceeded my expectations. I have been able to get involved in project work right from the start, and there has already been a great deal to learn. I am looking forward to getting to know more people at VALOR and working on new projects.
Lauri: Absolutely! I have already learned a tremendous amount during my first three weeks and have had the chance to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone. Right from the first weeks, I have been given a lot of responsibility and have also had the opportunity to work directly with clients, which has been incredibly educational. And of course, I cannot forget VALOR’s amazing team, whom it has been a pleasure to get to know.
What would your dream project be like?
Joel: My dream project would involve working on a new and innovative solution, for example in the energy sector. In an ideal project, analytical problem-solving, modelling different alternatives, and creating value for both the service provider and end customers would come together.
Lauri: A project that challenges me broadly and is highly important to the company as a whole. In my dream project, the company’s business model and strategy would be rethought boldly, with a focus on renewal and finding new avenues for growth.
What are you looking forward to most this spring?
Joel: This spring, I am especially looking forward to the opportunity to work more closely with other people at VALOR and get to know them better. At the same time, I am excited to learn more from them about project work and management consulting.
Lauri: What I look forward to most is getting to work on problems that at first seem almost too difficult for me to solve. I enjoy the feeling when a challenge that seems difficult turns out to be entirely solvable; in those situations, you often learn the most and the fastest. I also hope to get to know a variety of different industries and better understand their dynamics.
